Tips for photographing your new baby - Newborn Baby Photography Kent
It is probably one of the photographs you will most treasure. The photograph of your newborn baby. The one you share with friends and family and put as the screensaver on your phone. So here are a few tips to help you take fantastic photos of your little bundle. Turn The Flash Off On camera flash light is very harsh and can cash large shadows on the background and the baby. To get the best photos of your baby, take the photograph in natural light. Ideally a room with big windows and white walls that will reflect the natural light streaming in. It is always best to have your back to a window so the light is behind you but in front of the baby. Be careful not to block the light and cast a shadow on the baby yourself. Photograph In Aperture Priority Mode (if you can) On a camera with the function, this will be AV or A. Choose a low number (F2.8 - F4) as this will give that lovely blurred effect in the background. Focus on the baby's face but bear in mind the camera will focus on the nearest to it ( the nose) so focusing on the bridge of the nose will ensure the eyes are in sharp focus and draw the viewer in. Get down low The best photos of newborns are taken at their level. Looking directly into their eyes or a small bit above. Overhead images tend not the be as flattering to the newborn as they can sometime be still quite curled up. Getting down to their level will ensure the focus is on the baby's face and eyes. If you would like an overhead shot, place the baby in the centre of a large duvet or on a small blanket to give an idea of scale. The baby is the focus so keep the background neutral and simple. Busy patterns and harsh colours are very distracting. Choose a good time of day Ideally your baby will be fed and rested. Try to plan ahead if possible so when the perfect times arrives you have all you need to hand. If you are going to strip baby, make sure the room is warm and you have towels close by in case of accidents. It's always handy to have a helper so one person can take the photo while the other is on hand to watch baby closely and make sure they are safe at all times. Another thing to remember is patience. Some of my newborn photography shoots can take 3 hours. Enjoy the time with your little one and get the photos you will be proud to keep and share.
